A transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reportedly been stolen at Bunso in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
The 100kVA transformer, valued at GH¢ 71,000, was shockingly taken by unknown individuals last week from the Bunso Police barrier, right next to the police station.
The stolen transformer was stationed on the land of the CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute, a few meters away from both the Bunso Police Station and the Fire Service command.
This incident has led to prolonged power cuts affecting the institutions and households in the surrounding areas for more than a week.
The Eastern Regional Office of ECG, deeply concerned about the repeated attacks on their installations, is working tirelessly to replace the stolen transformer.
Reports indicate that ECG is urging security agencies to enhance their vigilance and proactively clamp down on the criminal elements responsible for such thefts.
The management of ECG emphasises that these criminal activities pose a significant threat to stable power supply in the area.
Efforts are underway to expedite the replacement of the transformer and restore power to the affected institutions and households.
