The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has vowed to tackle unemployment in Ghana by training approximately one million youth in digital skills.
Addressing party supporters at the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong on Saturday, August 3, 2024, which aimed to re-energize the party’s base and launch the campaign in the Akuapem North constituency, Dr. Bawumia emphasized job creation as his top priority.
He unveiled plans to equip one million youth with digital skills, enabling them to access employment opportunities globally, even without a university degree.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that, this initiative will not only bridge the skills gap but also empower Ghanaian youth to compete effectively in the global digital economy, thereby tackling the issue of unemployment.
“I want the youth to be employed, jobs will be my main focus. I’ll train about one million youth in digital skills, that’s where the job opportunities are. Even if you haven’t been to the university, as long as you can read and write, we’ll train you in digital skills so that you can work in other countries, while in Ghana. You’ll be in Ghana but will be working in America, Canada, Japan, UK,” he added.
The Vice President also accused former President John Dramani Mahama of failing to deliver on his 2012 manifesto promises, achieving a mere 28% out of 280 campaign promises.
Dr. Bawumia threw down the gauntlet, challenging former President Mahama to a debate on the data, emphasizing that Mahama can not make false claims when faced with facts in a face-to-face encounter.
