The Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) has donated laptops to 50 students at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), in Tarkwa, to support their studies as part of a four-year scholarship package programme.
The beneficiary students are already part of the company’s scholarship programme, selected from across its host communities across the country.
The Deputy Managing Director of BOST, Joseph Kpemka, speaking at a brief ceremony to present the laptops to the needy but brilliant students in Tarkwa, highlighted the initiative as a corporate social responsibility effort aimed at empowering students.
“The laptops will facilitate access to information, online research, and academic work,” Kpemka stated.

He emphasized the company’s commitment to positively impacting society, particularly through supporting talented but financially challenged students from the company’s impacted communities in the country. “By providing these laptops, BOST aims to remove barriers to learning and help these students succeed academically,” he added.
BOST plans to monitor the students' academic progress and their post-graduation activities. Mr Kpemka promised that those who excel in their final exams would be considered for employment opportunities at BOST, subject to available vacancies.
The beneficiary students are pursuing various degree programmes like petrol-chemical engineering and other related courses.
As part of BOST’s support, the fees of the beneficiaries for the duration of their studies have been catered for in addition to paying for their accommodation and a monthly stipend.
The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Director of Education, Catherine Biney, expressed gratitude to BOST for its support.
She urged the students to value the assistance and demonstrate their appreciation by excelling in their studies. Biney praised BOST for its contributions to enhancing education in Ghana.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UMAT, Anthony Simmons, while lauding BOST for the initiative, urged the beneficiaries to succeed in motivating the company to continue to support others in its host communities.
