The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has expressed deep concern over what it describes as a glaring neglect of the region in the recently unveiled manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to the NDC, the NPP’s manifesto lacks specific, targeted initiatives to address the unique needs and aspirations of the Volta Region, reflecting a longstanding pattern of neglect and disregard for the area.
NPP’s neglect of the Volta Region
The NDC points out that the NPP’s manifesto not only fails to address the critical needs of the Volta Region but also appears to have largely plagiarized elements without offering any meaningful or region-specific commitments.
This omission is viewed as a continuation of the ruling party’s historical disregard for the Volta Region, a sentiment that resonates strongly with many locals who feel left out of national development plans.
The NDC’s statement criticized Dr Bawumia for his failure to visit victims of the devastating tidal waves that hit Anlo, Keta, and Ketu South during his recent campaign tour, despite being in the area.
His belated visit to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage, prompted only by public outcry, is seen as further evidence of the NPP’s lack of genuine concern for the Volta Region.
According to the NDC, these actions are part of a deliberate strategy by the NPP to marginalize the Volta Region, a stance that has been mirrored in past national budgets that largely overlooked the region.
NDC’s commitment to the Volta Region
In stark contrast, the NDC’s Resetting Ghana manifesto is highlighted as a comprehensive and inclusive development plan with over twenty-eight specific projects and initiatives tailored to the Volta Region. These initiatives span critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, health, job creation, and good governance, all aimed at driving sustainable development in the region. The NDC’s commitment to the Volta Region is seen not just as a political promise but as a reflection of the party’s broader vision of inclusive development and recognition of the region’s pivotal role in Ghana’s socio-economic landscape.
A Call to Action
Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, Communications Officer of the Volta NDC, called on all well-meaning Voltarians and people of Volta descent, both within and outside the region, to reject what he termed the “super-incompetent and heartless” NPP.
The NDC argues that the NPP’s lack of meaningful commitment to the Volta Region is evident in its hollow promises and empty rhetoric, as exemplified by its latest manifesto.
The NDC is urging the people of the Volta Region to support their candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7th elections.
The party believes that under Mahama’s leadership, the Volta Region will experience real, transformative change, with a clear, deliberate, and actionable plan for development and prosperity.
