The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare, says it will be a bad omen to use an inaccurate voters register in the upcoming elections.
According to him, the process of updating and verifying the voter register for the elections is currently underway.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on September 21, he said, “We want all parties to be on board. It will be a bad omen on the Commission if we go into the election knowing that there are problems in the register that we can address.”
Dr Asare noted that all mistakes identified by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been addressed, but the party’s calls for re-exhibition and a forensic audit remain unaddressed.
According to him, all the issues of transfers have also been corrected.
“All the issues the party NDC claimed they have identified, I can assure the good people of the country that all the problems have been addressed. All the transfer anomalies that the NDC says about 243,000 people,” he said.
“The only concern that has not been addressed is the NDC calling for re-exhibition and also calling for a forensic audit. When you call for an audit now, it is premature. The process of having a final register has taken off.”
Dr Asare reassured the public that the Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring all necessary measures are taken to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
