The two victims who tragically lost their lives in the East Legon accident last Saturday have been identified as 12-year-old girls, the police have confirmed.
The girls were in a Honda Acura with registration number GR 2542–23, along with three other occupants, when the vehicle was involved in a fatal crash.
The accident occurred when a white Jaguar, with registration number GN 7801–20, driven by a 16-year-old boy, the son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako of Alive Chapel International, rammed into the Acura from behind.
The impact caused the Honda to crash into a wooden electric pole, which led to the wires falling on the vehicle and igniting a fire.
While the driver, Joseph Ackah, and two other passengers survived the crash, the two girls were trapped inside the vehicle and were burnt beyond recognition.
The incident has left the families and the community in shock and mourning.
Following the tragic event, Cornerstone International Academy, where the two girls were students, announced an early midterm break.
The school expressed its deep condolences to the families affected by the loss and acknowledged the grief shared by the entire school community.
In a letter addressed to parents, the school revealed that it would be closing early for midterm from Tuesday, October 15, to Friday, October 18, 2024, to allow the community to process and grieve this tragic loss.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the affected families, We wish those hospitalized a speedy recovery,” the school’s letter read.
Meanwhile, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako of Alive Chapel International and the mother of his son, Mouha Amoako, were arrested by the police on Tuesday in connection with their son's involvement in the East Legon accident.
Their 16-year-old son, who was driving a white Jaguar, collided with a Honda Acura in East Legon, resulting in the tragic death of two girls at the scene.
