The Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics, Musah Dankwah has provided insights into the weekly telephone polls tracking the performance of various presidential candidates ahead of the upcoming December 7 general elections.
According to Musah Dankwah, the behaviour of supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shown consistency between both field polls and telephone polls.
Similarly, he said the voting patterns of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the telephone polls align with their behaviour in field polls.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on Friday, October 25, Mr Dankwah stated that a significant number of individuals who voted for President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections now indicate, through the telephone polls, that they intend to vote for former President and NDC flagbearer, John Mahama.
He explained that a growing number of people now admit they voted for President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections but plan to vote for Mr Mahama in the upcoming December 7 elections.
“That number is a lot higher in the telephone polls than the field polls,” he said.
Mr Dankwah further shared the results of their first poll, where John Mahama led with 53%, followed by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at 39%. Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, polled 1.7%, while Nana Kwame Bediako, founder of the New Force, secured 5.2%, with other candidates receiving 1%.
However, in a subsequent tracking poll, Mr Mahama's numbers dropped slightly to 51.1%, while Dr Bawumia gained traction, rising to 40.6%. Mr Kyerematen's share increased to 2%, and Nana Bediako's support rose to 5.6%.
“You could see that Mahama dropped about 2% from his previous polling number and then Bawumia gained 1.6%, then Alan gained 0.3% and Bediako gained 0.6% and the other parties lost 0.4%,” he said.
