Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has made a call for a peaceful and non-violent 2024 general election, urging all Ghanaians to respect the outcome of the polls.

He stressed the significance of accepting election results to ensure the preservation of Ghana’s democratic values.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, November 17, Mr Kufuor highlighted the importance of maintaining calm and order throughout the voting process.

He encouraged voters to exercise their rights peacefully, emphasizing that the nation’s stability depends on the willingness of its citizens to honour the electoral outcome.

Mr Kufuor expressed his hopes for a seamless and transparent electoral process.

He reminded Ghanaians that ultimate authority lies with the electorate and that the power of unity and peace must be upheld both during and after the elections.

“It is vital for everyone to queue calmly and exercise their voting rights on election day," he stated. "Electoral violence is entirely unacceptable, and I am hopeful for a peaceful voting process."

The former President further urged Ghanaians to accept the election results, regardless of their personal preferences, underscoring the importance of putting the nation’s well-being first.

The former president called on all participants to prioritise peace during this critical period.

The upcoming elections are scheduled for December 7, with the main competition being between Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
