The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante-Twum, has disclosed that head coach Otto Addo and his backroom staff are owed several months of unpaid salaries.
Speaking on Game Plan on Joy FM, Asante-Twum explained that the responsibility for paying the Black Stars’ technical team falls on the Ministry of Youth and Sports, not the GFA.
"I am not sure of the exact duration, but there are salaries in arrears. We owe him [Otto Addo] a few months, and it’s not just him but also the backroom staff," Asante-Twum said.
He explained that, "It is the Ministry’s responsibility to handle that. Since it falls under their remit, I cannot speak for the Ministry, but what I know is that some months are in arrears."
He also emphasised the importance of engaging with the Ministry, especially in situations involving potential termination of contracts and severance payments.
"There’s every need to consult the Ministry because, ultimately, if the coach is sacked and there’s an issue of paying him off, that responsibility lies with the Ministry, not the GFA," he explained.
The revelation comes amid growing uncertainty over Otto Addo’s future as head coach, following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Otto Addo is on $50,000 per JoySports sources.
