The Volta Regional Peace Council, in collaboration with political parties, government institutions, and civil society organizations, organized a peace walk through the principal streets of Ho on Saturday.

The initiative aimed at promoting peace before, during, and after Ghana's parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

With special voting set to begin on Monday, December 2, 2024, calls for peaceful conduct have intensified across the nation.

The peace walk brought together various stakeholders, all united under the banner of maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, emphasized the importance of peaceful elections and urged politicians to rely on democratic processes rather than conflict.

“I am appealing to all politicians; you don’t have to fight to come and serve this country. We only have to use our thumbprint. Everyone should conduct themselves in a manner that will bring peace at the end of the day. I ask the youths not to allow themselves to be used by anybody to cause violence or any form of disturbances,” Rev. Mawutor stated.

The Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas Hamidu, echoed this sentiment, particularly addressing Zongo youths. “As Muslims, we should promote peace,” he said, urging young people in the Zongo communities to reject any attempts to use them to incite violence.

The peace walk saw the participation of Mr Mawulorm Klutse, the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Ho Central Constituency, who was the only candidate present at the event.
He expressed his desire for a peaceful election, encouraging all political parties to accept the results with grace.

“All I expect in this election is peace. I encourage every political party to accept the outcome of the election results and pray Ghana remains at peace after the elections,” Mr Klutse remarked.

The walk concluded at the Ho Jubilee Park, where participants engaged in physical exercise led by personnel from the 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces.
