Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s ability to win the 2024 elections.
Speaking during the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk in Kumasi, Mr. Mahama criticised the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his frequent visits to the region, attributing them to fears of waning support.
“After his two-week tour, we came to Ashanti. Today, I hear he has rushed back to Kumasi. If he likes, he can bring Madam Samira Bawumia, his entire campaign team, and even his bed to sleep in the Ashanti region, the NDC will still win,” Mr Mahama remarked.
This follows Dr Bawumia return to the Ashanti region, after completing a 15-day tour of the region last month as his campaign for the upcoming general elections hits its final lap.
Dr. Bawumia's visit is part of a series of final campaign stops across the country, where the NPP is seeking to consolidate its support base to win the December 7 elections.
But Mr Mahama urged Ashanti residents to evaluate the NPP’s performance critically, accusing the ruling party of abandoning crucial regional projects over its nearly eight years in power.
He also described recent efforts by the NPP to showcase progress as election-driven deception, not limited to the Ashanti region.
The former president assured Ghanaians of the NDC’s commitment to addressing development challenges across the country if voted into power.
