The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the lead-up to the general elections on 7th December.
At a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, 4th December, the GFP’s deputy general secretary, Jerry Offei Addo, explained that the endorsement was based on the strong alignment between the NDC’s campaign policies and the GFP’s core objectives.
He stressed key proposals such as the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, free tertiary education for able-bodied individuals, and the creation of a 24-hour economy, which resonate with the GFP’s commitment to advancing women’s development and improving the lives of the underprivileged.
During the press conference, the party’s acting national chairman, national organiser, and national youth organiser dismissed claims that the endorsement lacked consensus or contradicted the vision of the party’s late founder and former flagbearer, Akua Donkor.
Mr Addo stated that despite the late Akua Donkor’s past criticisms of John Mahama, the decision to support him and the NDC was justified, as the NDC’s vision for Ghana aligns with the GFP’s mission.
Mr Addo also refuted rumours that the NDC had influenced the endorsement through external incentives, affirming that the decision was made solely in the best interests of the nation and the GFP’s supporters.
“We have already begun campaigning for the NDC,” he declared, underscoring the party’s commitment to securing an NDC victory in the upcoming elections.
