Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has raised allegations against the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing the body of attempting to aid the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in rigging the elections.
According to him, this alleged plot will ultimately fail, as Ghanaians remain determined to vote for change and protect the integrity of their ballots.
Mr Mahama claimed that since Thursday, December 5, the NDC has reported multiple incidents of the exposure of validating stamps to the EC, yet the Commission has not issued a clear directive to stop its staff from disclosing critical details regarding these stamps ahead of Saturday's elections.
The NDC flagbearer argued that such exposure could allow the party behind fake ballot papers to create replicas of the stamps in order to undermine the election process.
Adding to the concern, Mr Mahama pointed to an internal memo from the EC dated October 10, 2024, which allegedly reveals a plan to facilitate ballot stuffing by leaking the serial numbers of the validating stamps prior to election day.
He stated that this is part of a deliberate strategy to manipulate the outcome of the vote.
In light of these developments, the former President has called on several key institutions, including the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society groups, the international community, and election observer missions to intervene and hold the EC accountable for its actions.
