The NDC Director of Elections, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has called on appointees of the outgoing government to begin preparing for a smooth transition of power following the declaration of John Dramani Mahama as the president-elect.
Speaking after the NDC’s decisive victory, he outlined clear expectations for the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration in the weeks leading to the swearing-in ceremony.
“The NPP must recognise that there is now a government in waiting,” he said.
“Ghanaians have delivered a resounding verdict against this administration with over a 1-million-vote margin. It is time for them to finalise their handing over notes and ensure a peaceful transition,” he said on Monday, December 9.

Dr. Omane Boamah urged the outgoing government to refrain from incurring unnecessary expenditures or signing binding contracts during the transition period.
“This period is called a transition for a reason. We do not expect them to commit the incoming administration to obligations that could jeopardise its ability to govern effectively. Financial institutions should also desist from honouring such obligations,” he warned.
He emphasised the importance of accountability, drawing parallels to the NDC’s own conduct after its 2016 defeat.
“When we lost in 2016, President Mahama stayed in the country, as did many of us, to account for our stewardship. We expect the same level of accountability from this administration. Operation ‘Recover All’ is not a mirage—it’s a reality,” he declared.
Dr Omane Boamah also reassured the youth, who he credited with voting overwhelmingly for the NDC, of the party’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
He said“, Hope is here, and President Mahama will deliver on the 24-hour economy plan to provide decent, well-paying jobs for the unemployed youth who trusted us with their votes.”
