Head coach of Legon Cities, Paa Kwesi Fabin has tendered in his resignation, just two months after signing a contract extension.
Last week, Paa Kwesi Fabin informed the club of his intention to step down from his role as head coach of the club.
Although the club was not opposed to the idea, management engaged the coach ostensibly to understand his reasons for such an action.
Sources have told JoySports that subsequent to the informal talks, Fabin submitted his notice of resignation to the club.
He was however persuaded to continue performing his duties while the club informed its directors of the decision. Fabin reluctantly agreed and was on the bench as Legon Cities suffered a 2-0 loss to Bechem at their home grounds, the University of Ghana Stadium.
Saturday's defeat was the eighth in the league for the Royals, who have also won only three games all season, with the three other matches ending in stalemates.
Cities are now bottom of the league, having amassed fewer points - eleven, than matches played - thirteen.
These results, and the generally uninspiring performances, are the reasons the club did not oppose Fabin when he submitted his resignation letter last week.
Beyond the results, sources at the club believe the management has long suspected Fabin's lack of control over the dressing room.
Losing support of the dressing room has surprised club officials because Fabin superintended over the rebuilding of the squad, assembling an entirely new team in August 2023 after the mass exits that followed Kodu's departure.
Fabin was appointed in July 2023, following the exit of Maxwell Konadu to Nsoatreman F.C.
The club is expected to communicate its decision to accept Fabin's resignation after firming up talks with a replacement.
