The MP-elect for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, has expressed support for the Supreme Court’s decision to quash the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation of election results in selected constituencies.
In an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Aboagye noted that while his constituency was not specifically mentioned in the ruling, he views the judgment as a critical affirmation of electoral processes and legal oversight.
“I was at the Supreme Court to observe the case, and I saw everything that happened. While the application by the NPP did not mention Obuasi East, the Electoral Commission included my constituency in the re-collation process. The decision to quash these re-collations highlights the importance of sticking to due process,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye added that the EC had initially declared him the winner on Election Day, a decision he insists was lawful and backed by all necessary documentation, including signed agreements from candidates and agents.
“The EC collated and declared me as the winner on Election Day. I have video evidence to support that both candidates signed, and the returning officer declared as mandated by law,” he explained.

While acknowledging that the Supreme Court’s ruling may have implications for his re-collation results, Mr. Aboagye remains optimistic.
The Supreme Court’s decision has been widely regarded as a pivotal moment in ensuring the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process, with many stakeholders, including Mr. Aboagye, commending the ruling for upholding the rule of law.
