The Member of Parliament-elect for the Ketu North constituency in the Volta Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana, has expressed his willingness to learn under the leadership of Alban Bagbin if he is retained as Speaker in the 9th Parliament.
He said, "I am happy to learn under his feet and the feet of all the other seniors so that we can all contribute to effective lawmaking."
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show with Sweety Aborchie on Monday, Mr Agbana stated that Alban Bagbin’s experience makes him a suitable candidate to continue leading the House.
“When you have a Parliament where about 42 of us are young people, all under the age of 40, we clearly need an experienced leader to steer the affairs of the House. I am happy that he will be retained as Speaker tonight,” he said.
Mr Agbana is one of many young people who have been entrusted with the mandate to represent their constituents in Parliament.
The first-time MP, who won his election overwhelmingly in his constituency, emphasised that he is ready to work diligently for the satisfaction of his constituents and for the nation.
He said, "We must play our roles, exercising our oversight responsibility to hold the government accountable and ensure that we deliver on the mandate the people of Ghana gave us on December 7."
The outgoing 8th Parliament will be dissolved on Monday, followed by the election of the Speaker of the House and its two deputies, as well as the inauguration of the 9th Parliament.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the NDC has earlier endorsed Alban Bagbin to be retained as Speaker for the new Parliament.
