The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for giving him the opportunity to serve the country once again, assuring them that their trust will not be in vain.
According to him, their votes will be significant in his leadership as he works to bring change to the country.
“To the millions of my fellow countrymen and women who joined long queues and waited in the sun for their turn to vote for me, you have my sincerest thanks for honouring me.
"My firm, immutable assurance is that your votes will matter in the work I will do to make a difference in the destiny of this dear nation of ours. Your courage to bring change will not go in vain,” he added.
Speaking shortly after he was sworn into office as the new president on Tuesday, January 7, Mr Mahama promised to work diligently.
“As your next leader, I shall strive to exercise sound judgement and make the right calls at the right times,” he stated.
Mr Mahama, who previously served as president, made his return in the December 2024 elections. He explained that he was on a mission to reset the country, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had failed to manage the economy over the past eight years.
He emphasised that, while he has taken over the mantle, he will “have the humility and presence of mind to take responsibility for any challenges.”
He further added, “I am willing to act firmly and timely to resolve the challenges that we face as a nation.”
