Law professor and legal expert, Prof. Kwame Gyan, says that the competence of the 60 ministers nominated by President John Dramani Mahama will be crucial in determining the future of Ghana.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 18, Prof. Gyan stated that the success or failure of these ministers will significantly influence not only the country’s present situation but also the prospects of future generations.
Prof. Gyan described these ministers as "destiny controllers," highlighting the weight of responsibility on their shoulders. He explained that their collective competence will be key to the nation’s development.
"These 60 people are going to determine the destiny of this country and that of children yet unborn," he said.
He went on to assert that if these ministers, along with other key figures in government, lacked the necessary skills, Ghana could face dire consequences.
"If our assessment of their collective competence and capabilities shows they cannot run the country, we are in serious trouble," he warned.
The legal expert also pointed out that the local population and international markets are closely monitoring the nominees, particularly those appointed to critical roles such as finance.
"The markets are watching your nominees," Prof. Gyan said.
He stressed that if doubts about their qualifications or ability to perform under pressure arise, it will damage confidence both domestically and abroad, noting that such concerns could undermine the economy, especially in matters like the stability of the cedi.
"Speculators and investors will begin to question whether these ministers have the competence to manage the nation’s economic challenges," he explained.
Prof. Gyan emphasised that the nominees have a vital opportunity to reassure both the Ghanaian public and international stakeholders of their competence.
"This is their opportunity to give reassurance to the people and the markets," he said. "They must demonstrate they are capable of leading the country effectively."
He stressed that the performance of these 60 ministers will ultimately determine whether Ghana can rise to meet its challenges and secure a prosperous future for all.
