Kofi Iddie Adams, Sports and Recreation Minister-designate, has stated the need to reignite the passion for sports in the country to ensure development across all sporting disciplines.
He made this call at the elective congress of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, January 23, 2024.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the congress, Mr Adams, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, emphasised the importance of stakeholder consultations on how to reignite people’s interest in sports.
“We need to bring back the love for our sports. One of the challenging aspects for our sports is funding, so we must all sit down and discuss how to resolve this issue.
“If we can regenerate the love for sports, many more people would be willing to also come on board and deal with the funding challenge,” said Mr Adams.
He also underlined the importance of the media in rekindling enthusiasm for sports and fostering unity among the various federations in order to ensure smooth development.
“The media would be a critical component in bringing back the love for sports, and we can’t do it without them.
“Information sharing would be one of the things we would be working on so that a void is not created, and I stressed earlier that unity among federations would be crucial,” he said.
Mr Adams is expected to go through the vetting process next week as his qualifications for the position will be assessed by the Parliament’s Appointment Committee.
