JoyNews understands that some individuals believed to be grassroots members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), have gathered at the headquarters of the National Communications Authority (NCA) in protest against the appointment of the new Director-General.
In response, the Ghana Police Service has deployed heavy security personnel to the facility to prevent any potential clashes or damage.
Last week, the NCA announced the appointment of Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as the acting Director-General of the Authority, a decision made by President John Dramani Mahama.
The Authority described this as a historic moment, as it marks the first time a Director-General has been appointed from within the organisation.
However, the news has not been well received by some aggrieved party members, leading to the protest at the NCA office.
According to the angry supporters, the appointee worked against the interests of the NDC when he reportedly led a group of NCA officials to close down some pro-NDC radio stations.
