Ghana has officially suspended diplomatic relations with the so-called “SADR,” reaffirming its stance on the Moroccan Sahara issue.
This decision was conveyed in an official document from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
Ghana has also announced its intention to formally communicate this position to the Kingdom of Morocco, the African Union, and the United Nations through diplomatic channels.
In the same document, Ghana expressed its support for Morocco’s good-faith efforts to reach a mutually accepted resolution to the Sahara issue.
Ghana had initially recognized the so-called “SADR” in 1979. However, in alignment with the momentum driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the Moroccan Sahara issue, 46 countries—including 13 African nations—have severed or suspended their ties with the entity since 2000.
