The overlord of Mamprugu and President of the North East Regional House of Chiefs, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga is urging the government to lift the curfew imposed on Walewale and its surrounding areas in the West Mamprusi Municipality.
A delegation led by Mba-Taarana in making the demand reminded the government of its promise through the Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia to remove the curfew in five days if nothing untoward happens.
The curfew, imposed due to security concerns along the Bolgatanga - Walewale Highway, has had devastating effects on the local community, bringing socio-economic activities to a grinding halt.
Residents say they are facing immense hardship, and schoolchildren in Kukua and Loagri have been forced to abandon their studies due to the presence of armed soldiers.
The overlord's call is also motivated by allegations of financial exploitation by some members of the security forces in the area.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Loagri has summoned the Ghana Armed Forces' leadership before the town's gods, seeking justice for his son's death.
The deceased, 34-year-old Hafiz Imoro, was reportedly clubbed to death by military forces who were responding to the burning of a vehicle by unknown gunmen on the Walewale-Nasi road.
Eight others sustained injuries with some still being treated at the Walewale Hospital.
The Chief said they would advise themselves if the government fails to investigate and punish the soldiers involved in the brutality.
