The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, is set to appear before Parliament on Wednesday, 5th March, 2025, to address concerns surrounding the construction of the central bank’s new headquarters.
This follows a request made in August 2023 by Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a comprehensive briefing on the project’s financing, cost implications, scope, and completion timeline.
Speaking in Parliament, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga stressed the need for transparency, stating that the bank’s leadership must justify the construction of the new building.
“At the committee meeting, we resolved that next Wednesday, we will invite the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as an independent constitutional entity, to brief this house on the pricing of the new headquarters. We want to understand how the price variations occurred, how quantities were determined, and the justification for the necessity of a new BoG headquarters,” he explained.
The development comes after former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Bank Square, a newly built headquarters for the central bank, on 20th November 2024.
