Ghana Athletics President, Bawah Fuseini, has revealed that plans are underway to organise a National Inter-Schools Championships in Ghana, following the successful Regional Super Zonals in the Central and Ashanti Region.
The recently concluded Inter-Schools event, held in Cape Coast and Kumasi respectively, saw standout performances from top schools such as Mfantsipim School and Prempeh College, whose athletes dominated the track and field events.
One of the most talked-about talents was Joseph Andoh Kwofie [Mfantsipim], who has been tipped as a potential future star for Ghana athletics.
The level of competition and talent on display has sparked widespread calls for more national-level events in the country to further develop young athletes.
Speaking to JoySports, Bawah Fuseini said that discussions are already underway with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), to organize a National Inter-Schools Championships in either Kumasi or Cape Coast.
"Just imagine the excitement from the Ashanti Region and Cape Coast—if we bring all these athletes together for a National Inter-Schools Championship, the atmosphere will be incredible," Fuseini said.
"I have met with the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and we are working towards organizing this event.
“The goal is to bring together the best-performing schools from the Super Zonals and create a pathway for them to compete at the African level,” he added.
