Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has praised the former President Nana Akufo-Addo for his exceptional management of the COVID-19 pandemic, attributing much of the country’s ability to navigate the crisis to his leadership.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on Wednesday, March 5, Mr Boadu acknowledged the decrease in the number of seats held by the party in Parliament, but emphasised that NPP members had performed admirably in the face of difficult circumstances.
He pointed out that, despite the challenges posed by the election, the NPP had done well, stressing that the party’s performance was remarkable given that many sitting governments didn't win elections in 2020.
He noted that if there had been any hardships experienced by the people, it was the responsibility of the government to address them.
"Even though our parliamentary number reduced, our party members did extremely well during the 2020 elections,"Mr Boadu stated.
He further mentioned "Ask yourself why there was no sitting government’s party that won the election during the 2020 election, and if there were any hardship, it was the government that is to be blamed."
He also attributed the NPP's success to the effective handling of the COVID-19 pandemic under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr Boadu credited President Akufo-Addo for managing the public health crisis excellently, which he believes played a significant role in maintaining the confidence of voters in 2020.
"We were also lucky because Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo managed the COVID situation excellently," Mr Boadu added, emphasising that the government’s handling of the pandemic helped the NPP retain substantial support among the electorate.
