The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) President Dr Patrice Motsepe today met the six CAF Zonal Unions to listen and discuss growth and development of Football in Member Associations ahead of the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt.
The six Zonal Unions are made up of the 54 Members of CAF.
Monday’s meetings saw COSAFA, CECAFA, UNIFFAC, WAFU A, WAFU B and UNAF all individually meeting with the CAF President to review the significant progress made in their respective zones as a result of renewed and stronger partnerships established with CAF over the last four years.
The Zonal Union Presidents commended the work of CAF under the leadership of Dr Motsepe, including the 50% increase of Annual subventions from USD 500,000 to USD 750,000 that has been the bedrock of football development and hosting competitions at zonal level.
The changes include the increase of Member Associations' Annual subventions from USD 200,000 to USD 400,000.
In addition to the financial support from CAF, stronger collaborative efforts have been established between CAF and the Zonal Unions with various capacity building programmes developed.
These include the CAF Finance and Governance Workshops, Zonal Union Tactical Workshops, VAR Academies, Anti-Doping Workshops and the recently launched CAF Broadcast Academy for TV Directors, among other on-going collaborations.
CAF has invested USD 3.5 million in VAR Academies in the Zonal Union.
Dr Motsepe thanked the six CAF Zonal Unions and their Member Associations for their contribution in driving the vision of making African Football globally competitive and self-sustaining.
