Head coach of Asante Kotoko Prosper Narteh Ogum, is extremely pleased with his team's performance against Legon Cities.
Kotoko returned with a win as they comfortably eased past Legon Cities 2-0 at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday after the League was halted for 33 days following the death of football fan Francis 'Pooley' Frimpong due to violent conduct in Nsoatre.
The win has propelled the porcupine warriors to first place on the league log, same points as Bibiani GoldStars (37).
Speaking after the match, Ogum expressed his delight at his team's performance despite many injuries.
“I am excited because if you have a lot of players who are injured and assemble a team that is solid like you saw today, I think it's good,” he said.
“For the injuries I don’t know, the medical team I can assure you, they are working very hard, day and night to make sure these players recover and join the team.”
“I have told those who are fit that as we wait for those who are going through the rehabilitation, we have to make sure that we accumulate some points and put ourselves in a key position for contention. So that anytime they are ready to join we don’t struggle because we are already in the race for the title.“
“The injury situation has not been good, but then if you look at how they play today, I think they did well even though it's been five weeks since we played” he explained.
Kotoko are set to face defending champions Samartex on matchday 24 of the league this weekend.
