Residents of Acherensua and Ntotroso in the Asutifi South and North Districts of the Ahafo region are urgently calling on the government to repair the dilapidated bridge over the Tano River that connects the two communities.
They have appealed to Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways, and Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, to collaborate in finding a lasting solution to this pressing issue.
Mr Kwame Agbodza recently visited the Acherensua-Ntotroso road to assess the condition of the stretch, as well as other routes, including Tepa-Goaso and Kenyasi inland roads in the Ahafo Region.

The bridge, built during the colonial era, has not undergone any major renovation, resulting in its collapse four years ago. It now poses a significant danger to both drivers and passengers.
A commercial driver, Yaw Ampofo, expressed concern about how the deteriorating bridge is making taxi operations unprofitable and putting lives at risk, turning what should be a vital transport route into a potential death trap.
He explained that although a promise was made by the previous government to repair the bridge within six months, the current administration must prioritise the completion of this critical project.

Linda Asor, a farmer and regular passenger on the route, added that the broken bridge forces travellers to take longer detours to Kenyasi and back, leading to increased transportation costs.
They have, therefore, appealed to the relevant authorities to take urgent action on the project to prevent further hardship for commuters and to restore safe and affordable transportation for the affected communities.
