A tragic road accident in the early hours of Monday morning has claimed the lives of three people and left two others injured at Akyem Asafo, along the busy Kumasi to Accra highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved three heavy-duty vehicles. A DAF trailer transporting cocoa, bearing registration number 6294-11, broke down and was left stationary in the middle of the road.

While en route to Accra, two other trucks, a Scania with registration number GS 6429-11 and a Howo tipper truck (registration yet to be confirmed), crashed into the immobile trailer.
The impact of the collision proved fatal for the driver of the Scania and two female passengers, believed to be market traders, who died instantly at the scene.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (Bunso Command), the Suhum Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), and the Ghana National Ambulance Service, were promptly deployed to manage the situation.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Suhum Government Hospital morgue, while the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the same facility.

Meanwhile, the Suhum Police MTTD has launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
