A political scientist and Fellow at CDD-Ghana, Dr John Osae-Kwapong, has called on President John Mahama to take decisive action and suspend Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, after a viral video showed him handing out some US dollars to Patricia Oduro Koranteng, a self-styled evangelist popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
In response to the controversy, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned Mr Gyamfi to the Jubilee House for questioning.
Insiders at the Jubilee House have confirmed that Gyamfi has been requested to present himself before the Chief of Staff to clarify the circumstances surrounding the controversial gesture.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show today, May 12, Dr Osae-Kwapong stressed the importance of swift action.
“I’m glad that the Chief of Staff has summoned him. I’m glad that he apologised. There’s a code of conduct in place,” Dr Osae-Kwapong said.
He added, “Whatever the appropriate sanctions are, I just hope that the President will demonstrate swiftness in dealing with this, applying the appropriate sanctions so that at least he can show that, look, this code of conduct that we have instituted is a policy that we intend to reinforce.”
Dr Osae-Kwapong emphasised that the President must act quickly to maintain accountability and uphold the integrity of public office, reinforcing the ethical standards expected of public officials.
