The Technical Advisor of the Black Stars, Winfried Schäfer, says the team missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was a 'disaster'.
Ghana endured one of their worst AFCON qualification campaigns last year, failing to win any of their games.
The Black Stars were in the same group as Sudan, Angola and Niger and finished bottom with just three points, all coming at home.
The team's failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON is the first time they won't be at the continental stage since 2004.
"The team had missed the Africa Cup of Nations – a disaster for Ghana. World Cup qualification wasn't going well, and the team was full of turmoil," Schäfer told German outlet Sächsische.
"The [Ghana Football] association president asked me to support Otto Addo and, as Director of Football in Ghana, to create a spirit of optimism and modernise football."
Since coming on board as the Technical Advisor, the Black Stars have won two games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, beating Chad and Madagascar.
