A tragic motor accident at Assin Kyinso in the Assin South District of the Central Region has claimed the lives of a commercial motorbike rider (Okada) and his passenger.
The fatal crash occurred on the morning of Saturday, 17 May 2025, along the Manso-Kwame Atta to Cape Coast road.
The deceased rider, identified only as Nasiru, died instantly at the scene. His passenger, known as Amosi and popularly called “UB40,” sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu. He was, however, pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
An eyewitness, Theophilus Awarty, told Radio Fosu/Adom News that the crash happened when a private vehicle attempted a U-turn on a sharp curve just as the motorbike approached at high speed.
“The driver tried to turn around on a bend, and the Okada rider couldn’t brake in time. He hit the car and flew off the bike, landing head-first on the road,” Theophilus recounted.
He said the area has recorded several similar incidents in recent months and called for immediate intervention from authorities to regulate the operations of Okada riders.
“We’re losing too many lives. The government must act quickly to control the growing number of Okada accidents,” he added.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue, while police investigate the incident.
