Bechem United’s hopes of returning to winning ways were dashed as they were held to a goalless draw by Premier League debutants Basake Holy Stars at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
The result does little to aid the Hunters’ quest for a top-four finish, following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to reigning champions FC Samartex 1996 in their previous outing.
Bechem have now managed just two wins in their last ten league matches (W2, D2, L6), a slump that leaves them trailing 7th placed Samartex by one point with only a few games left in the season.
Despite their struggles, Bechem United remain one of the league’s joint-fourth highest-scoring teams with 30 goals, while also maintaining a relatively solid defense, conceding 26 times across 32 matches.
However, they were unable to convert their attacking efforts into goals on Sunday, despite playing at one of the most formidable home venues in the league.
The stalemate sees them miss the chance to secure what would have been their 12th home win of the campaign.
Basake Holy Stars, now drops to the 16th place on the table with 35 points in the the relegation zone, put in a resilient performance to frustrate their hosts.
The debutants have now picked up eight points from their last six games (W2, D2, L2), and continue to show grit as they look to cement their place in the top flight.
They’ve scored 30 goals and conceded 34 so far this season.
