The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has firmly rejected calls for a rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election, insisting that the party has secured an indisputable victory.
Addressing the media in Accra on Tuesday, July 8, Mr Kodua stated that the NPP possesses “undeniable evidence” proving that its parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie, won the contested seat.
He further called on the Electoral Commission to comply with a court directive to conclude the collation process and officially declare her as Member of Parliament-elect.
“We have our undeniable evidence to clearly show that we won the Ablekuma North parliamentary election,” Mr Kodua said.
“And yesterday, when the National Executive Committee met, we said that under no circumstances will we be intimidated. Under no circumstance will we be coerced to go for a rerun,” he continued.
Mr Kodua reaffirmed the party’s position, insisting that the NPP had secured a legitimate victory in the constituency and would not accept any attempt to overturn the outcome.
“We will not go for any rerun. We have won the elections. What we are asking the Electoral Commission is to follow the court directive, finish the collation, and declare our candidate, Akua Afriyie, as the MP-elect for Ablekuma North,” he noted.
The statement follows ongoing political tension surrounding the final results of the Ablekuma North parliamentary race, which has seen disputes over collation and legal challenges.
The Electoral Commission will, on Friday, July 11, rerun polls in 19 polling stations in yet another attempt to settle the disputed Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary election in the Greater Accra region.
According to the EC, this forms part of its efforts to resolve the ongoing impasse surrounding the constituency's results, which has consequently left the constituents without a Member of Parliament.
