A former Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, Leanier Addy has branded former Black Queens coach Nora Häuptle as “overhyped” following Ghana’s performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nora left her role as Queens coach in January 2025 after her contract expired, with no new agreement reached with the Ghana FA.
The Swiss coach, who later took over the Zambian national team, saw her side eliminated in the quarter-finals after a heavy 5-0 defeat to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Ghana progressed to the semi-finals under the guidance of Kim Lars Björkegren, who was appointed in February as Nora’s replacement.
"We overhyped Nora Häuptle,” she told Asempa FM.
"If you check Nora's credentials and other Ghanaian coaches who had handled the national team, they were far ahead of her.
"We should give this coach [Bjorkegren] more time to be with the team and we should have more friendly matches for the ladies. I am pleading with the Ministry for more international friendlies.”
Ghana lost 4-2 on penalties to hosts Morocco in the last four of the competition.
Up next for the team is a third place playoff clash with defending champions South Africa on July 25 while the final between Nigeria and Morocco comes off a day after.
