The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), under the Feed Ghana Programme, has presented 3,000 bags of fertiliser to the Ashaiman Farmers Union to support food production.
The donation, which forms part of the government’s broader strategy to boost agricultural productivity across the country, was handed over at a brief ceremony in Ashaiman, attended by farmers, government officials, and stakeholders in the agriculture value chain.
Mr Bright Demordzi, the National Coordinator for the Feed Ghana Programme, who presented the items on behalf of MoFA, said the initiative was in line with the government’s commitment to ensure that Ghana becomes food sufficient.
Mr Demordzi revealed that the support would go a long way to improve yields, reduce production costs, and increase income levels for the farmers.
He explained that the distribution of fertilisers was a nationwide exercise aimed at reaching all districts, adding that more supplies would follow to support the farming communities across the country.
Mr Demordzi further urged the farmers to apply the fertilisers effectively and ensure the best agronomic practices to achieve the desired results.
He reiterated that the Feed Ghana Programme was designed not only to increase food production but also to empower rural economies and create sustainable livelihoods.
Mr Osei Kwame Danquah, Secretary, Ashaiman Farmers Union, expressed appreciation to the MoFA for the timely intervention.
“We are grateful to the ministry and the government for this gesture. It will bring great relief to our members, especially during this farming season,” he said.
He assured that the union had put in place measures to ensure that every registered farmer received their fair share of the fertiliser, stressing transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
The event ended with a call on farmers to continue supporting the government’s agricultural policies and play active roles in promoting food security in Ghana.
