Following the tragic accident on the Atwidie–Juaso stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway that claimed 16 lives, Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso, has called on the government to immediately prioritise the dualisation of the most dangerous sections of the road.
Addressing Parliament, Hon. Opoku said the country cannot continue to lose lives on a highway connecting the south to the north, which carries thousands of commuters and goods daily.
“Every weekend I use that road to get to my constituency, and every trip feels like a prayer. There are no lights, proper road signs, and very little enforcement."

"Dualising the stretch from Praso to Kumasi is no longer a luxury – it is a matter of life and death,” he stated.

He urged the Ministry of Roads and Highways to make the project a central part of the government’s infrastructure agenda and to pair it with better roadworthiness and enforcement of safety measures.
