A new advocacy initiative aimed at strengthening human rights standards within the hospitality sector and its supply chains has been launched in Accra.
The campaign, unveiled at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, seeks to address long-standing concerns around labour exploitation, unsafe working conditions, and unethical sourcing practices in the industry.
Delivering the welcome address, General Manager of Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, Isaac Okpoti Adjei, Esq., underscored the urgency of “spotting and addressing human rights risks in hospitality and supply chains.”

He emphasised that behind the elegance and efficiency of hotels and supply networks often lie hidden vulnerabilities, including forced and child labour, unfair wages, unsafe conditions, and environmental harm.
Mr Adjei noted that spotting such risks begins with vigilance and awareness, adding that abuses can occur not only in global supply chains but also locally.
He called for robust due diligence, supplier assessments, transparent audits, and the use of digital traceability and anonymous reporting tools to uncover hidden violations.
He stressed that identifying abuses is not enough without action, urging stakeholders to enforce fair labour standards, embed human rights obligations in contracts, and provide training to staff and suppliers.

He also highlighted the importance of partnerships with NGOs, labour organisations, and government agencies to strengthen accountability.
“Addressing human rights risks is not only a moral imperative but also a business one,” Mr Adjei said. “Guests and consumers increasingly demand transparency, ethical sourcing, and sustainability. Businesses that safeguard human dignity earn not just compliance but also trust, loyalty, and long-term success.”
The campaign launch brought together policymakers, civil society representatives, legal practitioners, and traditional leaders.

It is expected to serve as a platform for stronger advocacy and practical reforms to ensure the hospitality industry and other sectors, upholds justice, dignity, and respect, alongside comfort and luxury.
The campaign is an initiative of the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.
