President John Mahama has officially reintroduced the National Sanitation Day (NSD), calling on Ghanaians to unite in keeping the nation clean and healthy.
Speaking at the launch held at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Madina on Saturday, September 6, President Mahama said the Sanitation Day will be observed nationwide on the first Saturday of every month under the “Clean Up Ghana” agenda.

“The National Sanitation Day is a call to action; an opportunity for each of us, regardless of our political affiliation, social standing, ethnicity, or religious beliefs, to unite in keeping our surroundings clean,” he said.
The president outlined the objectives of the initiative, including fostering a culture of routine cleaning, reducing disease outbreaks through improved hygiene, enhancing the aesthetic beauty of towns and cities, and boosting tourism.

He stressed that the success of the program depends on partnerships among government institutions, traditional leaders, religious groups, businesses, schools, and the public.
“We are not just cleaning our environment; we are securing the health of our people, protecting our environment, and leaving a legacy for generations to come,” he said.
