At least 20 passengers were held at gunpoint during an armed robbery on a Sprinter bus travelling to Kumasi.
The bus, identified by its registration number GG 4181-16, was targeted around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, while traversing a notorious stretch of road between Tweapease and Mfensi, close to the Moments of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA).
According to eyewitness accounts, five armed men ambushed the bus, blocking the road and demanding that passengers hand over their belongings.
The robbers were reported to have taken money, mobile phones, and other valuables, leaving the victims shaken but thankfully unharmed physically.
Effah Samuel, one of the passengers on the journey, recounted the harrowing experience to Citi News.
“It all happened so fast. They came out of nowhere, pointing guns at us and shouting for us to give them everything we had. We were terrified,” he said.
Although no physical injuries were reported, the psychological impact on the passengers has been profound, with many expressing fears of travelling along that route in the future.
The incident highlights a growing concern among residents and commuters regarding the safety of the Sunyani road. Many locals have voiced their frustrations over the deteriorating conditions of the road, which they believe contribute to the rise in criminal activities in the area.
Police have been urged to ramp up patrols and enhance security measures in vulnerable areas, particularly during nighttime hours when incidents tend to escalate.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by commuters in Ghana, emphasizing the critical need for coordinated efforts to enhance road safety and combat crime.
