The residents of Dobile woke up on Sunday, September 21, 2025, to news of the death of a night watchman in the area.
The deceased, identified as Issah Yahaya, was found with his head smashed and a knife lying on his chest under a shed near the Wa new market.
The deceased, also known as 'Soldier', was said to be one of the security men of the market who patrolled the area at night.
The body has since been retrieved by the Ghana Police Service and conveyed to the regional mortuary for preservation.
The recent incident has brought back memories of a series of killings that the metropolis experienced in recent years.
In the previous killings, some of the victims had parts of their bodies missing, and this fueled the perception that the killings were for rituals.
No arrest was made in the previous incidents.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Wa, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwana has appealed to residents to remain calm while the police carry out investigations.
As part of measures to improve security in the metropolis, he said the assembly was fixing all the street lights.
Already, he said about 70 percent of the existing streetlights have been replaced and made functional.
However, he said there was a deficit of about 400 streetlights that needed fixing and stated that the assembly has written to the stakeholders involved for support.
He also appealed to the Inspector General of Police to support the region with police Patrols to improve security in the town.
He said at the peak of the killings in the previous administration, the police mounted barriers in some areas within the metropolis, but said some of these barriers have since been removed and the men withdrawn.
