The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed that the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo)’s 161kV Aboadze–Tarkwa transmission line has been damaged, potentially affecting power supply in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions.
According to the Ministry, a maintenance team has already been dispatched to the site to begin urgent repair works.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Ministry said, “The maintenance team has been swiftly deployed and is currently at the location, working diligently to repair the line as quickly as possible.”
It added that technical assessments were ongoing to determine the extent of the damage and restore full transmission capacity in the shortest possible time.

The Ministry further noted that the incident could lead to temporary disruptions in electricity supply, particularly in Kumasi and Tarkwa.
“The analysis also highlights the possibility of power supply disruption in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions within this short period, precisely Kumasi and Tarkwa,” the statement explained.
While expressing regret for the inconvenience caused, the Ministry assured the public of its commitment to resolving the issue promptly.
“We wish to assure the general public that every effort is being made to repair the damage and normalise the situation,” it said, adding, “The Ministry deeply regrets any inconvenience this may cause and remains committed to ensuring reliable power supply across the country.”
