Police in the Ashanti Region are investigating circumstances leading to the death of a 20-year-old Senegalese national in Kumasi.
The remains of Cheith Toure, a young goalkeeper in his home country, was deposited at the Ebenezer mortuary in Tafo-Kumasi by an individual identified as Issah who claimed to be the brother of the deceased.
However, further investigations at the Manhyia Government Hospital established that on 16th October, 2025, Issah had brought the deceased to the hospital in a critical condition, with several abdominal injuries.
He had alleged that the victim had been involved in an accident, but the hospital records showed that Cheith was brought in dead.
The Police, in a statement, described his death as ‘unnatural’.
The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs in Senegal suspects that Cheith has fallen prey to a ‘network of scams and extortion of funds after its Embassy in Accra earlier confirmed the discovery of the body of Cheith.
It’s unclear the circumstances leading to the demise of the young football talent.
Representatives from the Embassy are in Kumasi collaborating with local authorities on administrative and judicial procedures to find the killers of the footballer.
The police have assured frantic efforts to thoroughly investigate the death and bring clarity to events surrounding the unfortunate death.
Meanwhile, processes are underway to coordinate with Cheith’s family to facilitate the repatriation of his remains once all necessary authorization is secured
