One Chinese national and five Ghanaians have been arrested in an anti-illegal mining operation carried out in the Bayere Agya Forest Reserve in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region.
The joint task force, which conducted the raid, seized four excavators and destroyed several pumping machines and other mining equipment found at the site.
According to officials from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), the operation forms part of a series of nationwide enforcement exercises within government-designated security zones announced earlier this year.
NAIMOS says the exercise aims to clamp down on illegal mining activities that continue to degrade forest reserves and water bodies across the country.
The arrested individuals are currently assisting police investigations as further operations continue in the Western Region.
