Three individuals have been remanded in police custody following their arraignment before the Fiapre Circuit Court in connection with the theft of a service pistol from the security detail of the Ahafo Newmont Mines Company in Ntotroso-Kenyase.
The Bono Regional Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, confirmed the details of the arrests and court action.
The incident dates back to January 13, 2025, when the official Berreta pistol with serial number GHGP/NHQ/CTD/H78688Z-13 was reported stolen from the mining site.
The Bono Regional Police Command announced that an intelligence-led operation, spearheaded by the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), culminated in the arrest of four suspects on November 12, 2025—nearly ten months after the weapon's disappearance.
The arrested individuals are:
- Joseph Blackige (25)
- Kwabena Dodzi (44)
- Adu Yeboah Abraham (46)
- Priscilla Awuni (18)
Initial arrests targeted Joseph Blackige and Priscilla Awuni in Ntotroso.
While a search of Blackige’s room yielded no immediate evidence, subsequent interrogation led authorities to the other suspects.
Blackige admitted to passing the stolen weapon to Kwabena Dodzi, who, in turn, led the team to the house of Adu Yeboah Abraham.
A search conducted at the residence of Mr. Abraham, uncovered incriminating evidence:
- Six (6) BB cartridges
- A quantity of suspected gunpowder
- GH₵ 28,844.00 in cash
These exhibits have been retained by the police as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The suspects appeared before Her Honour Mrs. Akua Adoma Addae at the Fiapre Circuit Court on provisional charges of stealing and possession of stolen property.
H/W Mrs. Akua Adoma Addae granted a Police enquiry bail to the female suspect, Priscilla Awuni, pending further investigations.
However, the three male suspects—Joseph Blackige, Kwabena Dodzi, and Adu Yeboah Abraham—were remanded into police custody.
They are scheduled to reappear in court on November 28, 2025.
