Tamale South MP and Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, says President John Mahama is demonstrating stronger economic leadership than former President Nana Akufo-Addo, pointing to the structure and priorities of the 2026 national budget as clear evidence.
“Without any fear of contradiction, President Mahama is managing the economy better than Nana Addo (former president) as president of the Republic of Ghana,” he asserted.
Speaking at a media engagement on Wednesday, November 19, on the education allocation in the 2026 budget, Mr Iddrisu argued that the current administration has shown “superior management” in dealing with Ghana’s debt.
“In terms of debt management, we have demonstrated superior management. If you doubt me, go to President Akufo-Addo's own speech, when he says that one of his regrets is submitting Ghana to a debt exchange,” he said.
He encouraged the public to maintain confidence in the Mahama-led government, insisting the administration’s economic reset agenda is on course.
“To those of you, I won't say men of little faith, have confidence and trust in President Mahama; 2025 is the beginning of his reset initiative. We primarily focus on correcting the wrongs in the management of the economy before the period 2025.”
The minister added that the allocations made to the education sector reflect prudent financial management and a renewed commitment to human capital development.
He maintained that President Mahama’s approach offers a more sustainable pathway for stabilising the economy while ensuring key social sectors receive the needed attention to drive long-term national progress.
Mr Iddrisu expressed optimism that “in 2026, President Mahama will focus primarily on resetting Ghana with his governance agenda of leading the process for constitution, administrative and legal reforms of the country so that we can serve the country better.”
