Rev Daniel Annan, counsellor and resident pastor at the Universal Gospel Centre, has urged women to take full ownership of their personal power and the decisions that shape their lives.
Speaking on Let's Talk hosted by Aseiduwaa, he highlighted the need for self awareness and purposeful living, particularly among young women.
According to Rev Annan, “Our decisions are often the outcomes we get.”
He said that by age 25, every woman should take time to assess herself honestly, understand who she is and determine the vision that guides her life. He added that women must define their career paths clearly and settle on the work they are willing to commit to.
Rev Annan stressed that “the personal power of a woman is extremely important.” He cautioned women against entering relationships where they feel their partners are doing them a favour, noting that every woman should be self sufficient and confident in her abilities.
Outlining key pillars of personal power, he spoke about faith in God, setting a clear vision, securing a defined job, understanding personal values, evaluating physical and emotional well being and reflecting honestly on one’s readiness for marriage.
He called for a broader societal shift in how women are perceived and treated. He criticised the mentality of “yɛ boa mo,” meaning “we are helping you,” which he said often places women in inferior positions. Rev Annan referred to a recent viral video of a man assaulting his wife as an example of the tragic consequences of undermining women’s dignity and worth.
He concluded by reiterating that women must be empowered to take control of their lives and reject treatment that diminishes their value.
