The Mfantsipim 150th Anniversary Planning Committee (MFA@150 APC) has intensified its stakeholder engagements as preparations progress toward the school’s historic Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2026 - a landmark commemorating 150 years of secondary education in Ghana.
As part of these engagements, the Committee has met with the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu; the Oguaa Omanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, together with the Oguaa Traditional Council; and the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, to brief them on the anniversary programme and explore areas of collaboration.

Education Minister
Accra: The Committee called on the Minister of Education to present the outline of activities planned for the Anniversary. They sought the Ministry’s partnership and guidance, especially regarding engagements with the Presidency, as official invitations have been extended to the President and Vice-President to participate in the launch and climax of the celebrations. The Minister commended the Committee’s progress and assured them of the Ministry’s support.
Oguaa Traditional Council
Cape Coast: The delegation paid a courtesy call on the Oguaa Omanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, and his Traditional Council at the Emintsimadze Palace. After presenting the appropriate customary homage, the Committee briefed the Council on the anniversary programme, including the planned ‘Aseda’ Durbar and the Grand Speech Day. Osabarimba praised Mfantsipim’s enduring legacy and described the celebrations as a source of pride for Cape Coast. He pledged the full support of the Traditional Council and encouraged continued collaboration toward a memorable national event.

Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly
The Committee also held discussions with the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, who expressed strong support for the Anniversary and reaffirmed the Assembly’s readiness to work closely with the Committee. Discussions included logistics for Cape Coast-based activities and the need to ensure broad community participation.
A Unified Front for a National Milestone
These stakeholder engagements reflect a shared commitment among government, traditional authorities, and local leadership to ensure a fitting and successful celebration of Mfantsipim’s 150 years of educational excellence. The MFA@150 APC expressed its appreciation for the warm reception received at each engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration as Ghana prepares to honour one of its most historic educational institutions.
