The 2025 Padel Accra Open international tournament kicked off at the S2 Sports Complex in Spintex on Monday and will run through Sunday.
The prestigious event will feature at least 16 international teams competing against the Ghanaian contingent for bragging rights and the lucrative prizes on offer.
The tournament is expected to climax the Ghana padel season, with French, Nigerian, and Ivorian teams among the international participants.
Professional Padel Association of Ghana representative Jean-Noel Said explained what makes the second edition different from the first.
“What is special about this tournament is that we have so many teams from outside. We have at least 10 teams from abroad that have come to participate in this event. Last year, we had, I think, about four or five teams,” he said.
“So that is what makes it so special, that we have been recognised around our neighbouring countries and European countries like France, and because we have some French players, this tournament is quite interesting for them to come and play and experience the level and experience the Ghana way.”

The Egyptian team of Aly Zaghloul and Sherif Makhlouf are confident of emerging champions in the men’s P250 category.
“For me, I'm excited to win this tournament. The weather here is very good. All the people are too nice and too kind. We don't use anything except playing this tournament and putting 100%,” said Zaghloul.
Makhlouf added, "This week, we're looking forward to winning this tournament in Ghana. We're excited. We'll give 100% and we'll try to do our best."
